The Forgotten: The Chinese Labour Corps and the Chinese Anzacs in the Great War

Wilkinson Publishing 2020

Unprepared to declare war on Germany, China however sent about 150,000 ‘coolies’ to assist the allied war effort in Europe. Of these a few thousand died, most of diseases like the flu, but also of hunger, neglect and in some case war wounds. Today their graves lie across France and Belgium forgotten as does the contribution of over 350 Chinese Anzacs who put aside their past vilification and racist taunts, to join the AIF and fight for Australia.
